Dromod is ideally located on the Lough Bofin on the Shannon River. About ten minutes drive from the popular and busy tourist town of Carrick-on-Shannon, this village offers the tranquility of the river close to the amenities of the larger towns.

Dromod always does well in the national tidy towns competition, and was runner-up in the year 2000. The Cavan and Leitrim railway offers short steam train journeys and a history of the old narrow gauge railway system that ran through Cavan and Leitrim. There are three good pubs in the village that are highly recommended for the quality of their food and service.
